General Discussion / Finger length / palm length
Compared to eachother...

I've thought about this quite a lot before, there have been lots of threads on other forums asking how long people's hands are, but has anyone ever though about how long your fingers are compared to the rest of your hand? I think the ultimate penspinning hand would have fingers that are longer then the palm, but I'm not sure anyone has that. How long are your fingers compared to your palm?
My fingers (I measure my middle finger) are 8.5cm long, and my palm is 10.5cm. My hand is thus in total 19cm long, and my fingers make out 45% of my total hand length. To calculate how much % your fingers are of your hand, divide your finger length by your hand length and multiply the product by 100.
For me it was
8.5 / 19 = 0.447368
0.45 x 100 = 45% -

My palm is about an inch longer than my fingers. I dont have a ruler on me. My hands are small. bictory length. Do the math.

My middle finger is about 8cm, and my palm is 10 - 10.5cm (wasn't sure where to measure from the wrist). I'm gonna go with 10cm.

Got the exact same resault as Rorix. 8 cm middlefinger and 10 cm palm. 44%.
Think it's pretty logical that the fingers will stay in a 43-48% range. -

About 9/20 give or take a few mm...so 45%

How exactly are you measuring your finger/palm? I just tryed three different ways to measure my middle finger and got roughly 9.5~12.5cm.
Same question for palm. -

I've got the exact sizes as you, Sfsr.

I think everyone's hands + fingers follow a ratio? Golden Ratio? Isn't it? Fibonacci...

The ratio most people are getting is closer to ~1.22-1.26. Although I agree that almost everyone's getting really similar results, it's odd. -

Why is it odd? When you think about it, this is exactly what one would expect to find. Most people's bodies are in very similar proportions. When is the last time you walked down a street full of disproportionate people? -

Now we only need to calculate in what way the finger/palm ratio is connected to how good people spin pens ;DD

cloud traveller is good. but his fingers aren't long compared to his palm.
bonkura's fingers are EFFED up, but he's good too. it doesn't really matter how long your fingers are i guess, but how much effort and determination you have. -

With some people having very different (trying to be politically correct here) proportions, I'm starting to think that you may not be measuring the length correctly. So, first thing first, we'll need to standardise the way we measure both finger and palm lengths first. Afaik, your 4 fingers (& a thumb) are of different length, so I assume all of you are measuring the middle finger (ie the longest finger).
Anyway, without any standards, here's mine first.

It's the ratio of (elbow to middle fingertip):(wrist to middle fingertip).
