Philosophy / goal, function of penspinning

I want to know, what is the interst of making penspinning? If that was only a cool thing for fun, would it be this organisation, all these websites, forum, if that was only for fun, would it be this "bureaucracy" of penspinning, with the naming comitee? Why do we need a so big organisation for something that is only for fun?

Can someone tell me what is the interest of all these efforts, all this time put on having an ultra-exact, ultra-perfect notation system? All this theory behing PSing, all these discussion of what is the fundamentals of something that is just FOR FUN?.

2 possibles, Penspinner is now overrated, we give too much importance to PSing, or to have a strong order and a perfect organisation is the goal of human.

I am not against this, I have just some questions, see?

Intrest? ummm...i say its self intrest. You spin to entertain YOURSELF. Before for me, it was to show off, now its to just entertain myself.

about your question on naming: In my opinion, we give tricks names because it helps to organize these things. so when the next person comes he/she can easily know what where talking about. (eg: no name: "hey can you guys do that trick that goes around your index finger and you catch it with your thumb and index finger?" <---that can be any number of tricks) or....."hey can you guys do a backaround?") see. simplicity

    uhh?

you know the industry of entertainment? video games for example? it's for fun right? why are there so many websites that review it, categories of games, etc.

your vision is too limited. You think PSers onl have fun when they spinn a pen. That's not true.

PS is a vast world... ppl have different interests even in the world of PS... some ppl like to mod, so they have a lot of fun just creating pens. Some ppl like intelligent discussions and use their brain, so they like to create formal systems for PS or theories. Some ppl like the community or the ppl, so that's where they get their fun. In reality, there many PSers out there who have interests outside of just spinning their pen.

But apart from that, PS is not even "just for fun". It's an Art. Read my article: http://www.mediafire.com/?d9xsmxdxzkx

    Simplicity uh?

Why is is a soooo formal notation then? It is far more representative to say "sonic clip impulse" than "sonic 23-13-pass 13-34", but the impulse is out of the formal notation...

It is far more representative "moonwalk sonic" then "sonic 12-23", but moonwalk was kicked of the formal notation...

Why a so strick, non-representative, complex notation system? Sure it's more clear and things like that, but if a newbie say like "how the hell can I do this trick?", a name who describe a kind of tricks will be more usefull that "pass-sonic-pas-pass-pass", see?

It's annoying for me to see a complex trick resumed in a verry simple, but yeah, of course strict, notation that tells nothing except the bases.

Edit: by the way, thanks for this answer: I spin to entertain myself... And before I spinned to show off. Thsi si exaclly what goed with me. Discuss. Is penspinnign only to show off, then to entertain self? re-discuss... or don't discuss, do whatever you want, this thread is fail.

Re-Edit: I just read Zombo's post, and I realised that my thread is a big scream against what I call the "bureaucracy" of PSing, and I lack of arguments and knowledge for now bla bla bla bla gna gna gna gna.. Why do I always accept my errors it's annoyong sometimes...

well you're going off-topic on your own topic dude...

do you want to criticize the naming system or do you want to talk about the goal of PSing.

if you want to criticize the naming system, why not go here and talk about it: http://www.upsb.info/forum/index.php?showtopic=31

nobody' forcing you to do anything, you don't want to use naming, that's fine. use whatever you want. the naming system we have has been developed because we feel it's the best way to clearly express yourself. if you dont like it that's fine.

do you know what bureaucracy means? when ppl complain against the bureaucracy, they're usually complaining that it either takes too long to get anything done, or that it's too tedious (have to go through many processes or forms to fill) to do it. there's nothing here that prevents you to do anything at all (pen spinning wise, not posting wise)

PSing is to entertain yourself of course, either indirectly by impressing others, or for your own pleasure. And my first post says that you can also have major interests in other facets of PSing that might bring you even greater fun that actual PSing.

It's like in MMORPGs, most ppl end up hooked to a game not because they like the game mechanics that much, but because of the community and the people they've befriended.

you can put this in off-topic, you know, it's beacause, I found that the goal of penspinning was cool to speak about all the organisation, but I realised all I wanted is to fuck arounf with the organisation, you know. Thant's why I consider this thread is fail.

I understand my psycology. For real. But I understand it only after I made the big error.

so you were made a topic to argue against something you believed in? (or already knew the answer too?)

eh. Well i spin so i dont fall asleep at work. I visit this website forum so that i can learn new tricks to hold my interest, and i like to give feedback so that others can enjoy the same experience.

Before i found out that there was an actual penspinning "community".....i just did thumbarounds over and over again.... I got real good at them but they get rather boring after doing them for about 10 million times....sorta like after you figure out how to solve a rubiks cube...its just not really that fun to play with rubiks cubes after that. But then i found this site, and i found out that there was a lot more to pen spinning than flipping a pen around when you are bored and there are a lot of people that do it.

The naming conventions are streneous but at the same time, so is music notation. Without music notation you wouldnt have giant beautiful symphonies and it would be really difficult to get others excited to learn more about it. Given there are a few people on this board that take that part of pen spinning too seriously, but...without them, would it be the same?

I love how people have found their own niche within this art called penspinning. Some people make great tutorials, some make great mods, some people get a kick out of sending mail to opposite sides of the world, and recieving packages in the mail with their name on it. Some people are just damn good at spinning pens. Some are just here for fun. Some are just here for boredom.

Everyone seems to have their own reason as to why we are here, building this seemingly pointless activity into something more.
