General Discussion / Pen Spinning in the Car
does it affect your spinning when you're not in a car

So i'm going to be on the road for several hours at a time when I go to visit some colleges in a few weeks and I was planning to practice a lot during that time. And then I began to wonder, when i'm practicing FL TAs in the car, will it affect my FL TAs when I do them outside of the moving car? If you know a little bit of physics, then you will know that when the car is moving, everything in it is not moving--so that is why when the car turns left, you go right...when the car turns right, you go left. And when the car stops, you go foward...and when the car starts moving, you move back.
So when I practice FL tricks in the car when it's driving straight, will the pen be pushed back in space? Because if so, I will eventually learn to accomodate to that issue while practicing in the car---but then once I leave the car, it'll be a bit different to perform since there is nothing "pushing" the pen back in space.
I might end up just practicing non-FL tricks like flush sonic and fingerpass -.-'' But I do want to work on my triple ta =\
So what do you think? Does practicing in the car affect the way you spin in a non-moving area? Or is it just so insignificant of a difference that when you spin at home, you won't even notice it (the car is going to be moving on average ~60 mph...well, if it's my mom driving, probably closer to ~75 mph >.< )
Oh, and when I say spinning on a non-moving area, I realize that the earth itself is constantly moving, but this is the norm that we're used to so this is what is considered stationary.
Thoughts? Comments?
EDIT:
Am I slightly paranoid...?
maybe...
Am I a nerd -.-''?
........yes >.>'' -

That's not true. Everything in the car will be moving. Everything will be moving at the same speed so your speed relative to the car will be zero. When the car turns left, centripetal force will act towards the center of the circle the car is traveling in, however everything that's loose inside the car will continue to move in a straight line, while the car moves from under them. This gives a feeling of being pushed to the right.
So spinning while the car is moving in a straight line at a constant speed will be the same as spinning normally. It'll feel different when the car accelerates/decelerates or turns. It's like saying if you spin on Earth, the pen's gonna fly away. Everything is moving with Earth, so our speed relative to everything else is zero so it seems like nothing. -

Wow..........That confuses me lol.....it kinda affects me though

hmm....this makes sense...
and i don't exactly know too much physics so i'll take your word for it on this one ^^''
thanks for clearing this up
looks like i can practice with no worries
btw....rorix..... ANOTHER POST BY YOU glad to see you posting more ---hope to see you have full moderator status soon -

As long as the windows are closed (lol, wind) you shouldn't have a problem.
I spin while driving my car all the time.. I only use bictories because I have lost some pens out my window before haha (first one was an MX, but I pulled over and got it back in not to bad of condition). -

the keyword is ACCELERATION, speed does not produce any force, ACCELERATION does. if you drive at a constant speed, you wont get pushed. BTW we're talking about vectorial speed/acceleration, so turning is a form of acceleration, because you're accelerating your lateral speed and decreasing the other direction

yea, just like you said the earth is spinning but that is the norm, when your car moves forward you feel it as it accelerates, but once you're going a constant speed, it becomes the 'norm'.
I am affected by the car's constant shaking, though. -

i can read a book in a car and still not get carsick
i'm usually pretty resistant to motion sicknesses ^^
but at the very least, i'd just close my eyes and practice fingerpass =\ -

its all about momentum.... as long as the car isnt doing any super tight loops for extended periods of time you should be fine.

In Quebec, the roads are in so bad state... It's pretty hard to spin.
Agree Zombo?
Edit: it reminds me of David Weis saying he looses pencils by dropping them out of the car... -

The only thing that can screw you up is acceleration.
Acceleration in a straight line won't matter if the pen is in contact with your hand as you and the pen will accelerate at the same rate, if it's not in contact with your hand though, you will accelerate and the pen will not, so that will fuck you up.
Also, any fast cornering you will fuck you up.
I've spun in the car and I found this to be almost a non-issue. The biggest issue is finding your pen as it finds the best places to 'hide' in the car when you drop it. -

Mats: yeah, one time my mother's car "ate" one of my double-sided pencil mod...

I like spinning on long car rides in the passenger seat. Lots of kids drive by and are like "WOAH!" and wave at me.
When i'm driving and i spin i tend to drop the pen right between the seat and the center console EVERY time.QUOTE (Mats @ Jul 28 2008, 12:17 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>I've spun in the car and I found this to be almost a non-issue. I agree! Its really damn annoying. -

Mine get stuck there as well haha. Then when I stop somewhere I have to mess with the seat, sliding it back and forth to get it out.
And as a side-note, I was spinning while driving today (with a KT) and it flew out of my hand and nailed my friend in the passenger seat. No blood drawn, but a nasty scratch haha.
