    Holy shit.

    1) This is going to hurt coach travelling a LOT if it spreads around. At least trains cost a lot more so this is less likely IMO (I took a train instead of bus to go to Toronto ahaha)
    2) That guy was a loser. Really poor esteem to attack a passenger in a BUS in WINNIPEG. We're lucky he didn't attack a school or a plane.
    3) I don't see how no one managed to stop him if he was "stabbing repeatedly" before beheading. It's not like there's a whole lot of room in a bus not to notice...

From what I know, the knife was a giant Rambo-styled butcher knife. After the third or fourth stab, the guy was basically a goner, especially considering the nearest hospital would be another hours drive away.

The smartest thing to do WAS to evacuate the bus. by the time he was beheaded, the victim was long dead. A trio of people came back onto the bus after everyone evacuated to "help" the victim, but it was more for the action then to actually help the victim. Take into consideration that the suspect was described as a 6 foot 200lb man and was attacking in an isolated bus alley with a butcher knife. I would imagine it very difficult to fight the man without getting seriously injured/dying. It may sound inhumane, but I think the passengers made the right choice.

Man, for some reason this incident really got to me. I'm not usually creeped out, but for some reason I have very vivid imaginations of the event..

Well it sure is unusual and would make a good backdrop for a horror film scratchchin.gif

generally people are more worried about themselves and would not attempt to stop the huge guy right away. self preservation or some junk like that. I would try to stop him but it would be nice if someone else was on that same page or it would be suicide. evacuation was the right choice for them if they didn't have the guts to go for it.

guy was probably dead before someone really noticed what was happening.

and they did prevent the guy from leaving at least and hurting other people. via wrenches

If you are not mentally ill you cannot possibly imagine how it is to be mentally ill. You have absolutely no idea until it happens to you.

Have the guts to go for it? A 6' 200lb guy with a large knife even is completely surrounded is still going to be able to do a lot of damage. You sound like you have a really unrealistic attitude to things like this. Numbers mean victory is certain but only because more total damage is required to take out the large number. A large number also means it's easier to inflict a greater amount of damage, especially when given a weapon.

Without self-preservation the human race may not have lasted.

And yeah this is a terrible incident but there are murders happening everyday, perhaps every second. Way too many sad.gif

yea well after I read more about it, they said the victim was sleeping when the killer stabbed him so I'm pretty sure he had all the time he needed to make a single fatal blow, no use for others to attempt to save a dead body.

LOL Zombo just said it was a 40 year old chinese man and the chances of him being 6' 200lb is about .0001%, but anyways he was probably Zombo's uncle or some crazy shit like that.

ughhh... It always amazes me how sick some people are. I heard of this one news story where a man kidnapped a woman and made her snip out her own eyes with a pair of scissors along with many other things that i forget. She somehow managed to survive and escape

    Right out the movies..

I don't understand why he is being charged with second degree murder..

This man brought an 8 inch butcher knife on board a public bus to kill. Is that not considered pre-meditated?

I don't agree with the RCMP sergeant's assessment of the passengers as "brave". If they were brave they would have tried confronting the killer. Instead they fled the bus. A small group returned only to flee again, and passengers finally came back with crowbars to keep the man trapped. The initial stabbing was likely fatal, but the passengers could have prevented further mutilation of the body. The killer not only beheaded the victim but was cutting other parts before he was caught. People are arguing on the memorial Facebook group whether Vince Weiguang Li deserves the death penalty, but capital punishment is not practiced in Canada.

He's actually 5'8 or 5'9. Eyewitness testimony is not always reliable since shock prevents people from seeing events clearly.

If the killer is mentally deranged, as seems to be the case, then it negates first degree murder.

It's odd to see something like this happen in Canada. I haven't seen anything this weird since the driver in BC ran over a walking wedding procession and killed 15 people.
