Idk. Does it?

Discuss. I see spinners w/o inserts like Sathon, and I somehow are more fond of their videos, rather than a video clip w/ a regular insert. Just want to know what you need to say about this.

I see no reason for not using inserts....
they make the pen look better IMO (most of the times) so why not? -
Date: Sun, Aug 3 2008 20:50:38
For some reason I can't spin pens without inserts lol
So it at least has to be a torn off piece off paper as insert -
Date: Sun, Aug 3 2008 21:12:50
I think that the inserts usually distract the spinning in the clip. Buhh I still like using inserts. Just saying that sometimes no inserts make the combo more appealing trick-wise.

personally I think a pen is much more unique with an insert and just overall it makes the pen look a whole lot better when spinning
but thats just me -

There are two occasions where I would choose not to use an insert:
1. I'm trying to make the pen look like a stock pen
2. It's a prototype that I know I'll be crash testing and it's likely to break (in which case I don't want to waste the time)
oh wait...there's a 3rd occasion:
3. The insert is just f*cking ugly XD -
Date: Tue, Aug 5 2008 04:13:25
For ballsigns and other pens that are like tinted or foggy, I use a plain insert, like all white. I think it makes it look nicer. And for single sided mods, like MX's and stuff, I try to use an insert that looks nice, but isn't too complicated, cuz some of them look ugly when they spin.
-
Date: Tue, Aug 5 2008 11:30:49
It depends whether the pen looks nice already without the insert
-
Date: Tue, Aug 5 2008 17:55:49
The only time when an insert is not needed is when someone is trying to make a transparent pen
-
Date: Tue, Aug 5 2008 22:02:09
Example: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=d5Vs1eA04KU
Skip to 0:31. Actually, Sathons fcking amazing. Watch it all buhh keep an eye out for 0:31 where he uses the Mx without the insert. IMO that looks the best -
Date: Tue, Aug 5 2008 22:38:58
my main pens i use dont have inserts in them, i think i only have 1 or 2 pens with inserts actually.
-
Date: Wed, Aug 6 2008 08:06:12
inserts can be visual appealing if put in contrasting colors
example: a mx with a full black with a few light colored stripes. -
Date: Thu, Aug 7 2008 16:59:44
I think inserts are cool.
They add style to your pen and some look really nice when you spin it. -
Date: Thu, Aug 7 2008 20:17:52
lol thanks Webo. I like my pens better when they are clean looking and such. If you have clean inserts I wouldn't mind though, like Aqua MX or Kam's inserts. Otherwise they'd look like toys rather than stationaries
That video reminds me of the gold-blue MX w/ insert heh. Gave that to someone else long ago. -
Date: Fri, Aug 8 2008 06:22:18
i usually spin non clear pens, so inserts arent a problem for me. but i prefer them in clear barrel pens
-
Date: Fri, Aug 8 2008 10:34:50
I agree with Kam Insert is ugly so i use pencil and pen which non-clear barrel instead.
-
Date: Sat, Aug 9 2008 07:27:41
I like inserts, but only those with stripes and patterns that have a spinning effect or else the insert is just for looking closely at the pen.
-
Date: Sun, Aug 10 2008 07:25:19
Insert is a form of decoration to ur pen.
I dun see any differences between them. -

agree...totally agree...haha...inserts give that colourful, appealing effect when you spin... -
Date: Wed, Aug 13 2008 10:54:31
I like it w/o inserts. Half of my pen is printed with the company's design..etc. I think the inserts could make it look cooler but i think I like it w/o the inserts. BTW they should make a way to print on the pen..that would be nice!!
-
Date: Wed, Aug 13 2008 20:09:47
most of my pens have an insert, because it makes it much more individual
and it really looks better with inlay -
Date: Wed, Sep 24 2008 18:56:45
i prefer to take a sharpie and make an all black insert and leave a small white line for the COB
-
Date: Wed, Sep 24 2008 20:26:56
i dont use insert in my MXs idk y but i think it makes the pen more simple and cleaner to me. but most of the sexy pens have inserts
-
Date: Wed, Sep 24 2008 22:00:47
Pens without inserts arent living up to there full potential
-
Date: Thu, Sep 25 2008 04:19:18
Yeah, a pen just doesn't look as good without an insert than with an insert.
-

Don't say that, just say that a pen could be better WITH and insert... there are lots of pens that look better without an insert but in some cases could look better =] for EX you dont want a pen with lots of messy woodchips inside the barral without an insert, UNLESS you like the way it looks =] In which case it is up to you. -
Date: Thu, Sep 25 2008 22:50:09
i dont have a color printer so i put inserts in black and white pens
but i only have like 10 black and white mods -
Date: Fri, Sep 26 2008 11:47:51
It seriously depends on the pen itself. If the pen in gonna look ugly with the exposure of the inktube/altered barrel, put an insert. But as for my HG2^2, i orginally used an orange hgg inktube, which den leaked. I cleared it and it started to give the luminous, fluorescent effect. Thus i decided to keep it and not put any inserts. XD

Date: Fri, Sep 26 2008 23:09:54
I don't know. Some of my pens have inserts, some don't. They make them look nicer, But it's the spinning that counts.
-
Date: Sat, Sep 27 2008 11:09:34
Insert is good! I've got a insert in my clear pen but I've got not many clears pens
-
Date: Sat, Sep 27 2008 19:41:30
I used to not like inserts, cause I felt like it made the pen look a bit more professional, but now, not so much, I think that pens with inserts look a lot better when you spin them. Because it gives your eyes something to grasp, not just to ends spinning around but an actual thing more or less.
-
Date: Wed, Oct 1 2008 15:59:38
IMO nice, clean insert makes pen look way better, but if you want to put no matter which insert just to have it, just leave it as it is.
-
Date: Thu, Oct 2 2008 02:43:30
no one seems to adress that inserts affect the weight of the pen
-

Cause a lot of the time it's really not that much of a difference. -
Date: Fri, Oct 3 2008 16:27:22
I like pens with insert, it looks better IMO.
By the way, a small question about inserts:
Do you guys glue them to the inktubes ?
I heard many people do like so, butI haven't tried it. -

I find that retarded. -

How can you feel a difference of less than 0.1 g?
-
Date: Sat, Oct 4 2008 11:28:09
I feel it to when I am spinning, it doesn't take much weight to affect your pen when you give it momentum and your used to its exact weight.
-
Date: Sun, Oct 5 2008 07:07:24
I can feel the difference too on some pens, more so on lighter pens.
But I feel like the effect it has on the momentum or spinning of the pen is so marginal that even though you can feel it, you get used to the difference if you just do a TA or whatever.
And I've never heard of anyone gluing the insert to the inktube. I would think it would just be messy, and you couldn't see much of the insert, it would just appear as a small strip. -

i think inserts gives you more confidence. i spin better on a mod that has outserts of inserts.. I feel that my pen is like hightech.
-
Date: Mon, Mar 30 2009 02:54:16
i only use inserts on fully clear-bodied pens (e.g., RSVP bodied mods) because it makes it easier for me to see when i'm spinning it
For cloudy mods (e.g., ballsign mod) i leave it insert-less, because i feel it makes it look nicer and more "normal"
for opaque ones (some Bictories) i don't use an outsert, i dun think its worth the time to put it on etc. :/ -

same with me

inserts/no inserts is like jabbawockeez.
they wear masks so that the audience is forced to watch the dance moves.
i guess no insert is like ur forced to watch the trick, not the pen. (at least IMO) -
Date: Mon, Mar 30 2009 15:33:39
I used to be obsessed with inserts, making and changing them on my pens 24/7. Lately, I haven't been using inserts though. It gives the pen a more 'natural' look, which I am catching on to. I want to try a water/oil mod sometime.
-
Date: Mon, Mar 30 2009 22:34:44
I really only use inserts when its a whole show off pen pimped out fancy blah blah blah pen. I mean with stuff like ballsigns, I avoid inserts because they don't show up as well and it gives it more momentum insertless.
Otherwise, inserts are really only good if they improve the spinning effect, otherwise, it looks like shit on the pen. -

does that mean you took the insert out the ballsign I gave you? -

insert ftw!!!
