General Discussion / Professional Pen Spinning?
-
Date: Tue, Aug 5 2008 03:02:04
Will there ever be a time when the top pen spinners can make a living purely from doing pen spinning and nothing else? Will there ever be truely professional pen spinners?

I just don't think people will take it seriously enough.

Na never unless you count like attending birthday parties to impress all the kids there while getting paid.

...needle's hole opportunity to making ps for a living (after become pro)...but doing business ($$$$$$) with it sure can like what we're doing now..sell...trade...item trade mark (â„¢)... get contract with the company that produce pen that ps needed to mod...(for example hgg-revive the production) where win win situation for both users and pen factory.. ..am i right ?

Maybe penspinning will be as popular as juggling..
And if you look at juggling + entertainment; one name: Jason Garfield.
So yeah ^^ -

U guys do realize that Kam is getting paid more money by SpinZ than by his job, right?
But, that is almost a 1-in-a-million shot for anybody, atleast in the US, where it isn't as openly embraced. In Japan and Korea, they have television crews follow some spinners (Cloud Traveler and Bonkura, but that was a while back) there is now Pentel jumping on the bandwagon in Japan, and so many other things happening an ocean away. -

fripâ„¢ might be right but the only person that can go that far is ..well..rip bonkura..yet ..but yet..still plausible...

i dont think so because even professional paintball players on professional teams dont get paid enough to make a living. the best and most endorsed paintball player only gets paid about 100,000 a year, and he's the most famous player in the world.

then to prove, let all the pro ps's who deal with selling or any way of getting $ from ps tell us their income..(income from ps alone) -

What? you dont think 100k is enough to live off of? You must have a very lavish lifestyle. -

Yes there will be, however it might take a while. Wait until pen spinning becomes as common as juggling and RL tourneys are held annually.

Eh, what makes you say that? -
Date: Tue, Aug 5 2008 06:26:04
if people can take colors and put them on a sheet and have little galleries at their loft in soho and get paid...
then yeah people who twirl pens around their fingers will too...but it will take a REAAAAAALLLLLLLLY long time for manipulative arts to become common. -

Penspinning is, to most people who don't pen spin, a unique talent like doing magic tricks for example
It entertains a certain audience and maybe once people get to know it better, the audience might even pay to see it done -

I could see more people getting paid in the future if pen companies start recruiting spinners to advertise there pens. If spinz becomes very popular then maybe more companies would make more spinning pens and need spinners to advertise for them. I doubt that you could make a living off of it but it could be possible if it became super popular.

Arn't there already pen spinners (kam for one) who got paid to to spin for a commercial? i think kam was advertising that pen thingy (forgot what it was called) Other then that, i don't see how penspinners are gonna get paid enough to make a living.
i think the best thing we can hope for is the money that we make (if any) penspinning is just pocket money really. -

Kam spun for Nokia, the "Flypen" company, and for Spinz.

i highly doubt it was enought to pay for a living. like i said, pocket money -

same...but untill then we just have to wait untill all these pser's (etc. kam and so on..) really tell us about how much they earn in ps alone.. -

well hes the player that makes the most money becuase of all the deals he signs. the next player, probably only 40k-50k -

At the moment, I've made €70,- [+ €500,- in October] with penspinning... That's not good enough for a living, sadly.
But then again, I'm only 16, who knows what might happen in the future? -
Date: Wed, Aug 6 2008 10:35:48
I dont think people place the same value on pen-spinning as compared to other forms of art/entertainment, so never.
-
Date: Wed, Aug 6 2008 10:52:32
My thoughts are this:
Pen spinning as a form of entertainment cannot be presented to a large enough audience to make it viable for their to be professional pen spinning making money from competition and presentation alone. However, if top pen spinners around the world were sponsored by pen spinning companies, in much the same way that skaters are sponsored now, then I think in that way a few spinners, from the sponsorship, may be able to make a living solely on pen spinning. So the deciding factor for me on weather there are professional spinners in future or not, is how the sales of pen spinning pens go. -
Date: Wed, Aug 6 2008 10:57:13
Isnt pen spinning classified into the top 5 Useless Talents?
-
Date: Wed, Aug 6 2008 16:21:46
I sure hope not. I think the only way you could consider it a profession is if you are making money off of the sales and marketing, and teaching of it to others. Some have captialized on this, (ie. Penwish, Kam, even some in the trade forum.)
I tell you one thing though, It will be a cold day on earth when UPSB is a pay to play site. 5 bucks a month membership fees and whatnot. I hope penspinning stays informal and communal, and i hope it stays free.
Moderators: Dont get any ideas please. -
Date: Wed, Aug 6 2008 17:04:16
What the hell, why would UPSB have to be paid for. It's a forum even the largest forum in the world doesn't even have a membership charge, honestly cud for like the 10th time I have no idea what you are talking about.
-
Date: Wed, Aug 6 2008 17:19:32
no one would pay $5 a month to look at a forum
very few people donate as it is (I don't have paypal:( )
with this forum having the option to donate is great but if it were required a lot of people would just leave. -

PSing is a hobby. I think thats as far as it will go in the future.
This is ignoring the manufacturing of pre-made pens made for spinning.
lmao. new Olympic sport -

yes. LSC is making a fortune.
-
Date: Tue, Aug 12 2008 13:11:43
If you can get free pens from spinning, you can also get payed. Eriror has already earned some money on it, Kam and a few other older penspinners too. It's just a matter of time, opportunity and being one of the absolute elite.
-

He isn't paid for spinning, just for modding/selling etc.
Penspinners can only do stuff like commercials (Robert Heim did 2 for E-Plus, Samuirari did one for Ferero i think... the duplo-commercial thing) -
Date: Tue, Aug 12 2008 20:44:00
difficult to say
for a penspinning to be pro, it means people are willing to pay money to watch it. that means the pros are obviously the best spinners in the world.
right now the best spinners of th world are not adults... so either pros are teens like in pro gaming or more adults become better at PSing. -
Date: Wed, Aug 13 2008 09:36:40
i voted yes, it possible that in the future pro spinners actually get paid for living, can company like spinz might also sponsor those pros with free pens, but remember, even basketball took a whole century to get to this popular, psing probably need 3 - 5 times of the time to reach the same level
-

FTW.
I think that Professional Pen Spinning could be feasible. Like how some pen spinners are featured in commercials and what not. The hard part here is getting the initial interest in the hobby. Not many people have the patience or commitment (or foolishness even >_<) to pursue an extremely time-consuming hobby such as pen-spinning.
