This happens every once in a while so I suggest changing to irc.synirc.net cause that's the only one that myself and my friends never had problems with. -

The problem is that everyone is on Quakenet, really..

yea sorry never had problems with quakenet except the occasional disconnect, changing it would be a lot of hassle for nothing.

This happens to me too, but fixing this problem is quite easy. You just have to join Quakenet from a different region's server. So when I join quakenet, I use "uk.quakenet.org" and this fixes the problem.
/server uk.quakenet.org

Using different server than quakenet these times isn't really wise. It has so many cons against few pros. I am happy with quakenet aswell, since it's the server where I've been since I first started internet
