Hand Care / Long finger nails. does it affects your spinning?

I am a person that is kinda lazy when comes to cutting finger nails.
Sometimes, I wait it to grow very long before I decided to cut it.
Just wondering, will long fingernails affects your pen spinning?

  2. DaThroat
    Date: Sun, Oct 28 2007 11:01:34

if you have skinny fingers like me, where there's no enough flesh to hold the pen in a triangle pass, your nails keep hitting the pen instead of your finge tips. wink.gif

i have no problem with my nails..i cut mine today..and i haven't even noticed any difference..

For tricks on the top of the fingers like BasketBall Spin and Triangle Pass, I think it would make them very difficult, apart from that though, it shouldn't make a difference.

Guess that I still need not to be that hardworking to cut my fingernails that often =x

I find they make my hands look better when spinning if not extremely long.

I don't think it affects it much, but I cut mine quite often cause I don't like having long fingernails ^^

I think having finger nails are better cuz it's more comfy and doesnt make a difference biggrin.gif

I cut mine as close to the pink part as I can for baseball (it's hard to throw with long fingernails). As for long fingernails in spinning, I don't think it affects you THAT much, just look at Ryo, he has huge fingernails.

eh I play violin, so I have to trim down the nails on my left hand. But having only one hand with long nails looks freakish, so I trim down both anyway.

Ive never had problems with my fingernails when they do get long though, I don't see them interfering with any tricks except for infinities and triangle passes

    Hey,

for me, I just hate long fingernails in general, since it affects my piano playing and my thumbarounds, so my fingernails are always short.

i cant do my infinity when having long fingernails

I find fingernail really affects my fingerpass after I get it up to speed as once you reach the max pass speed the pen is simply floating on your fingers. Nails will destroy the momentum because they only protrude on the tops of your fingers.

i don't cut my nails often and i play the violin...

but neways, my pen hits the top of my nails in a lot of tricks, and haveing long or short won't change the way i spin

I think long finger nails affects abit for now.
Recently I am trying to learn tipped sonic, and my fingernails keep blocking my pen from moving downwards....

took me about a week to learn it without long fingernails

I prefer to have short nails ^^

Long nails affects penspinning yes, but only some tricks like:

    Triangle Passes.

    Thumbaround Reverse.

    And so on =)

    Date: Wed, Nov 21 2007 21:27:00

The Fuck You stall doesn't need a nail, the pen rests on the index and ring fingers. The Devil's Stall needs the nail.

I thought we talked about having a long fingernail would make it easier to balance the pen on top of your finger, since you can rest it against the nail?

I hate doing a reverse thumbaround if my index finger has a long fingernail.

I don't think they would affect spinning much, they're just an extension of your fingers.

BTW: Ayatori's fingernails make me puke.

i have pretty long finger nails because i play guitar and use them to finger pick and i don't notice them getting in the way of my spinning so i would say they dont

lol at the 6 month bump ._. But it doesnt really affect spinning in general IMO, only specific tricks like other people have mentioned.

i don't know, because i play violin so much that i have no nails (as in they are short enough and the pressure from violining causes the flesh to sorta start to go around it;its really not as disgusting as i put it as haha) so i don't know how much it affects spinning.

  34. tylt
    Date: Mon, May 12 2008 04:30:10

I dont know how they affect me. Usually i keep my fingernails short just
because its more comfortable but sometimes i get lazy and it really doesnt
do anything to my spinning. I think that overly long fingernails are super gross
    kinda like ayatori's nails.

I can't stand long nails. They're just so uncomfortable and feel nasty. TA rev and a few other tricks aren't good for me with long nails either.

I was watching the korean collab video and noticed that almost all of them have really long fingernails. Makes them look rather goth.

I have let my nails grow long lately. I can't see any different though. I can still spin normally, but lets see how I can spin after I cut them. They are very long though. 0,5 cm... hmm...

  46. Makis
    Date: Sat, Jul 26 2008 20:05:14

I had before really long fingernails, and they didn't affect at all. I don't really do tringle pass that much, but at least for other tricks it didn't affect me.

  47. CaliMartinio
    Date: Sun, Jul 27 2008 18:11:51

Normal people spin with their fingers not their fingernails
So i doubt that having long fingernails will really affect anything, unless they're like unbelievably long

  48. Tone

Well, my nails are usually about half an inch long, and they have caused me more typos than messing up in PSing. I suppose you get used to them after a while if you keep them at the same length.

  52. DeadMyth
    Date: Wed, Aug 20 2008 09:28:31

They only affect my TA reverse, it's weird for me cause i can't fully touch the pen with the index, so i put too much strength on it and the pen flies away.

Me too , and when I have these nails I can perform TA reverse easily

PS , I usually "Scratch" the pen to perform ta rev laugh.gif
PS 2 , Today I scratched my own face when I was slept , I woke up and saw blood on my face WTF ?? dry.gif

  54. SuperRegular

As most people agree, it doesn't matter too much, but if you trim it too short, it hurts a bit when you do TA reverse.
And yeah I also like shorter nails for some reason.
    Longer ones seem uncomfortable? huh.gif

I've never tried spinning with long nails. Since i started spinning, I cut them every week.

i play guitar so i have to cut them anyway.

If your nails are longer than the flesh at the tip of your fingers (even when you've cut them down to the pink), try picking up a string instrument like violin or guitar. It helps.

It builds up skin at the front.

i keep mine a little long, maybe 1/4 cm. It just feels much more comfortable, that and when spinning i think it looks sweet as well.
