Hand Care / Cracking knuckles?

I admit, I'm a sucker when it comes to cracking my knuckles. It gets to the point where I'm trying to crack them, but they don't "pop" all the time... I assume this isn't healthy, and I intend to stop (it's half the reason I'm starting penspinning), but will it effect my penspinning at all?

I'm not sure but I read somewhere that the 'pop' from the knuckles are the release of gas and that it is normal...I think.
