Do you guys warm up before PS? It can be in the form of hand exercises or basic PS routine before starting a practice or real spinning. Pentix has a hand exercise tips here: http://www.pentrix.com/pentix/faqs/index.html#improve_skills

    Share you thoughts here! laugh.gif

depends what I do, if I want to invent new tricks or perfect something really hard, I'll warm-up. Check out the article written by firebird on Hand Care.

Hmm...that depends...when I'm doing things like fingerpass and sonic r/f harm, I warm up because I tend to do them for a long time. But, when I'm just doing freestyle I do not. Maybe because my freestyle doesn't include many fingerpasses and sonic r/f harmonics? rolleyes.gif

I like to warm up first. I do those hand excercises where you isolate each finger on each hand and bend them happy.gif Simple.

Usually not unless if my hand is stiff I do. unsure.gif

I do a few things like Xtreme Digitz to warm up, usually. Afterwards, Charges and Passes to get my fingers used to the pen itself, and wrist excercises to get my wrists more flexible.

    I hope this helped. smile.gif

No i never warm up when i spin,
but i do start out with simple tricks before i start doing combo's so i guess that could be considerd warming up

Same you, basic tricks for finish with combos (sometimes i warmup my middlefinger too)

  9. Sfsr

I warm up by spinning wink.gif

If I'm outside and it's cold, I clench and relax my fist again and again though, to get it warm.

I only do casual spinning, so I don't warm up for it.

i always warm up by like doing simpil tricks fist then harder

I never varm up to spin, but if I will try something new, a new trick or combo wich I never can make...
I often stretch my fingers very hard, it'll get my fingers in a very flexible way and I have a bigger chans to take control over the hard combo or trick.

I don't even warm up for basketball so...

    Date: Sun, Sep 9 2007 05:00:55

I warm up only if I'm just pen spinning, such as alone in my room. If I'm in school or something then I don't warm up. Although I do perform that excercise where you bend each finger independently. Even just showing people that I can bend my fourth finger on its own usually wows them. happy.gif

I never warm up, its not a good thing. 5 mins later of spinning, my fingers are aching like crazy.
    Warmup you guys!

Latley I've found a real good way in warming up - The Nintendo Wii!
Somehow I tend to hold the controllers very hard, and after playing like 10 min of Red Steel, Im good to go.

But I cant really say I do that often, only on few occasions.

Does that work? I'd think your hands get stiff. hahha I'd still like to try it.

    Works fine for me!
Gripping the controllers that hard must increase my blood flow and such.
I spin smoother after Wiing for a while aswell, but that passes after like 10 min.

as long as my hands have a certain amount of sweat, i don't need to warm up.
i find that it's much easier to spin if my hands are wet.
my parents are really cheap so they keep the thermostat at 82 degrees fahrenheit, which is just hot enough to make me feel warm and make my hands sweat a little bit.
when in school, i think the thermostat is set to like...75 or something, so my hands are always dry and it's harder to spin the pen.

Ok, I have a question. When you bend a finger independently, or bend a bottom joint independently, do you just try your best, or do you restrict your other fingers with your left hand till you can do it without restricting them?

i don't restrict using my other hand. that hurts real bad if you try too hard. nono.gif

Aww, I have a wii, but I don't warm up like that tongue.gif. I just do charges in the slots, 12 23 34, 10 rotations reverse then 10 rotations normal. Once that's done, I start the finger bends smile.gif. Then, I do fundamentals for a minute, then on to the real spinning, or practice. It's helped me to get faster lately.

    Warm up...it's a good thing.

And not just with simple tricks...If you warm up with Charges and other simple tricks, you're only increasing the blood flow on your hand, but you're not really improving your dexterity. Finger exercises work better because they can involve movements that are not being used while doing simple pen tricks. If you do finger exercises, you'll likely improve the range of movement of your fingers, which could be useful in future tricks.

I know I don't always warm up, specially in front of others as they look at you weird, but it's very beneficial. I highly recommend it.

I've done some xtreme digits and hand-warmup exercises before, but stopped after some weeks. Anyway, I'm thinking about trying again, and would love some links to tutorials (if they can be called that...) on how to warmup and increase finger dexterity if anyone has any ^^

edit: I already have Erirors Xtreme Digits link, so I probably don't need any more for that.

Let me try to elaborate. When you do one of these, do you just try your best to NOT move the other fingers or joint, or do you manually restrict them so you CAN'T?

Hmm...depends on the exercise. I do both types.

I'm not sure there's a proper name classification for them, but the restrictive type seems easier to begin with as you have a physical thing (other fingers) to control where you start/stop. In the long run, however, non-restrictive moves SEEM to be faster once you mastered.

I never warm up before spinning. I usually start with some easier tricks to (not for more than 2-3 mins). Then I just spin normally. Most of the times when I spin I don't do any extreme stuff that can be of any danger of hurting my hand, so see no need to do.

I kinda warm up, i just do some fingerpasses to get the flexibility in before i do my other stuff. It's not like a real "warm-up" but i voted yes.

It's not as much as like warming up for a sport, but more getting used to the weight of the pen, and how the pen feels.

It depends what "warmup means". As in stretching your fingers/ cracking knuckles? Then no. If you mean semi fluent reverse fingerpasses and bakfalls, then yes.

    -Balisong finger stretches
-An exercise where i charge in every finger and sonic to transfer them. i do that in reverse as well
-also about half a minute of fingerpasses and another half minute of fingerpass reverse

    kinda helps out
