Hand Care / Long fingers vs short fingers

Do you think that longer fingers are better for penspinning or shorter fingers
I have very long fingers and i find taht sometimes they get in the way when i'm passing from one finger to the next, especially when i'm doing fingerpass, but i find that longer fingers may have a bit more dexterity (but since i dont' have short fingers, i wouldn't know)

as for short fingers, I have no idea how it feels to have them since i don't

so which length do you feel is better for penspinning

if it turns out to be the shorter fingers, i'll think about chopping off a joint or two xD

I have long fingers too, but I think this shouldn't really affect your spinning, since when you're good you should spin at the end of fingers anyway, so maybe just longer = better.
Dno, just my thoughs I am stil noob smile.gif

  3. Sfsr

I think it's cooler with long fingers, you can get bigger rotations kinda.

I'm only 13 so yeah.. I got small fingers. I guess having long fingers would allow the pen not to slip out as much. I think it would be better longer.

    Agree, it affects your style.

I remember seeing someone with long fingers, and it was freaking long, most of the time I only see his fingers moving. His presentation was not very good(forgot who is it). Maybe if he change his style of spinning, it would seems a lot better...

    Date: Sat, Dec 29 2007 10:01:32

Agree with Sfsr. People with long fingers will spin more beautifully than those with short will do.
    I have short fingers though...

Yet I don't think there are tricks that short fingers can't do.

    How long are long fingers?

If your middle finger is 8.3 cm, is that considered long?

ma fingers and deathangels fingers are not as long as yours..
we have difficulty doing some stuff while for you it is easy
small way to test long fingers.. see if you can touch index and pinky together without any thumb support or anything. mr dathroat can do that fairly easily... man... his fingers are really long... if not.. his palms are small

You must understand - this topic doesn't need to clarify long and short fingers, it's just discussion about if its better to have shorter or longer. My middle finger has 8.9cm btw

  12. Sfsr
    Date: Sat, Dec 29 2007 19:54:43

What matters is how long your fingers are compared to the whole hand, just your finger measure doesn't affect your spinning in any other way then that different pens are more comfortable.

well, i dont' think that should define stubbyness since the length of my palm is longer than the length of my fingers as well, but i have long fingers

  16. raelz
    Date: Sun, Dec 30 2007 21:35:39

Btw define length, since mine can be said to have 11.2cm (when I measure the length from tip to knuckle)
Or 9.2 cm if it's meant from the tip to the point where the actual finger can be seen
Or 8.9cm if it's to the point where the ring is in this photo

  17. -JC-
    Date: Sun, Dec 30 2007 22:16:52

well i measured 8.5 cm from the base of that ring on that finger to the tip, but that's a good question

but i dont' think that it would go all teh way to the knuckle cause that doesn't really affect the spinning
as opposed to the area where the ring is which needs to be bent sometimes for tricks

  18. DaThroat
    Date: Mon, Dec 31 2007 01:38:10

    hmm....

there was once a finger length or palm : finger ratio thread somewhere..... huh.gif

anyway, my palm : (middle) finger ratio is 1 : 1.

    10 cm each. laugh.gif

  19. -JC-
    Date: Mon, Dec 31 2007 01:43:47

mhmm...that ratio thing that you just put up made me think of something, thanks happy.gif

so referencing back to that previous pic, the length of a finger should definitely be to where the bottom of the ring is cause if you start measuring to the end of the knuckle, you start measuring the palm too (this is obvious with the middle finger)
you can't measure the same distance twice, so that knuckle distance would be part of the palm distance...it's just on the opposite side of teh palm

Most peoples fingers make out about 45% of their hand size.

  21. -JC-
    Date: Mon, Dec 31 2007 11:00:13

okay, so the ratio is basically the same from one person to the next...do longer fingers affect penspinning in anyway different from shorter fingers

    such as:
    -learnign tricks faster/slower
    -more dexterity
    -etc...

  22. Ã…lan
    Date: Thu, Feb 7 2008 07:21:35

Just look at the koreans, 10/15cm hands, why are they so good ?... yes becuse they have shorter fingers, they are fester.

BUT I think longer hands/fingers are much better to get more style in the spinning.
I have round a 19cm long hand, I'm more slow when I spin.

    Short hands/finger = Fast.

    Long hands/fingers = Slow.

    Often anyway ^^

  23. Wizzard
    Date: Thu, Feb 7 2008 16:02:03

    I agree with you, Ã…lan.
I don´t have long fingers, but I don´t have short fingers, either.
And I can´t say which kind of length I would prefer, because for me there´s no uniformly style in penspinning.

    Oh well.

people with shorter fingers can spin shorter pens with ease such as an mx
if you have monster hands its harder cause the pen is so small
and it seems like people with small hands own

mine is 6.7cm middle finger...my friend hate my ballsign because its too short for him but i love it...
but i think long fingers are better when showing finger dexterity...like some tricks that have big rotation or movement of fingers like double charge...big fingers make the finger motion smoother but small hands wont...
thats what i can say... laugh.gif

Long fingers can make learning tricks such as Flush Sonic much easier. I took like 2 weeks to get Flush Sonic smooth and my fingers are about 7.8cm long. On the other hand, my friend has 9 cm long fingers and he took 1 day to get flush sonic smooth. Really! So long fingers are more of an advantage, as they let you perform those omgwtfbbq tricks easier. And you can always make your own self mod that is suitable for your finger length, just that you might not be able to use popular mods such as RSVP MXs and the like, so i dont think that is a huge advantage, and in short, long fingers are made of win. happy.gif

perhaps the palm size comparative to the fingers makes a difference. it probably matters how far away the fingers are from each other compared with how long they are. the ratios and stuff decides if u have this fat hand, or a long hand... i think these proportions are much more important than size length by itself. A small hand that is is similar (not congruent) to the large hand should be the same, but if not similar, then they will be different.

Look at the size of my hand.
I do not see it as an advantage or disadvantage.
Just abnormally large and in charge.
It is all about the person not the hands.
I mean obviously if you have some sort of deformity you're probably at a distinct disadvantage, but aside from that I don't think that spinning is really affected by the size of a persons hands, looking at all the best pen spinners in the world they have a very diverse range of finger sizes, short, long, skinny, fat, ect.
Spinning level all boils down to dedication, practice, and drive. IMO

Uhm...Eriror has 22 cm hands doesn't he? Because he said in his latest day session, the MX is 4 cm shorter than his hand(MX is 18 so u add 4 it becomes 22) and Eriror spins an RSVP MSXA which is 1 cm shorter than his hand. I think it's just about your skill. The size of the hand doesn't really matter. Probably bumpy knuckles matter...tongue.gif

i have me some tiny fingers, and i honestly believe that shorter fingers are harder, because you have less finger to work with, just like short legs are hard for running... but also, all pens are proportionally bigger, so you have some bonus momentum. also, its hard to keep things smooth with small fingers.

Only disadvantages I can think of is that it is harder to use longer pens if you have shorter fingers, but then, the shorter pens are in similar length to longer fingers in relatve means.

I have long fingers and they work well aside from the fact that fingerpass is rough because your fingers have to go a long way to get the pen past the former finger. I also think it may be a little bit harder to spin with faster speed because of the same reason, the pen takes longer to get through your fingers.
It's really easy to type on the keyboard though tongue.gif
