Hand Care / Short pinky is short.

I'd like to ask for help, or some suggestions, if that's okay.
I've got short pinkies, and it really messes up when I'm doing something like the Sonic. Where the fingers meet the palm, mine slope down more than normal and the pinkie ends up only coming up to my ring finger's halfway-point. If that's difficult to imagine, think of it this way. Remove the top third of your pinky. Yea. That's about the size of my normal pinkie XD;;
My description sounds confusing. Sorry =(
So, how can I make up for the short pinkie? If I do the Sonic, the pen usually skims right over the pinkie, and if I bend the rest of my fingers to a 90-degree angle, the pen ends up in my first phalanges (closest to the palm) and throws off the balance.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: I wasn't exaggerating XD -

It's an exaggeration dude... -

It might not be such and exaggeration my pinky touches my middle finger just about 1 cm above the second knuckle . So yes our pinky's are short .

thats convinient. but you'll probably loose some control(dexterity, flexibility etc) after surgery tho... -

...wtf? that's.... not short..
mine's just like that, never had a problem -
Date: Tue, May 27 2008 13:11:39
@ 00000000
But if you cut the other fingers down, so that there poportional to the pinky wouldn't he be able to mantain his finger control idk i don't do surgery... -
Date: Tue, May 27 2008 13:36:46
wow that is pretty short, usually the pinky reaches the top phalanx of the ring finger.
only thing you can do is get used to it, avoid using the 4, or use a thinner pen maybe. -

Are you sure? THat means my pinky is abnormally short too! >.< -
Date: Tue, May 27 2008 16:07:53
AH!!! all theese freaks, cmon people I don't wanna see your mutated pinkies T.T
Joking but yah, that is short, my pinky is up to the first joint of my index finger and like a centimetter more than that... -
Date: Tue, May 27 2008 20:35:28
Ahhh I feel slightly better about my not-so abnormal pinkies, haha.
I suppose if I were to have surgery, I could get the doctors to lengthen the metacarpal and not the finger itself. I imagine four phalanges would look kiiind of odd XD
I'm starting Fingerpass. But it's reversed, since the pen can't get to the pinky if it's normal. Would it be a problem if I only learned one way, and not the normal way?
This board has been mighty helpful =) -

Eh, they're not THAT short... just more practice involved to get Fingerpass smooth
-
Date: Tue, May 27 2008 21:44:26
I tried it lefty and I cramped XD
More determined now to switch over to using just the left instead of watching my left hand phail and my right hand pwn XD -

Awesome...my pinky is the same way...only comes to half way on the middle phalanx of the ring finger.
Interesting how some people have that, while most people have a slightly longer pinky. But it seems it's always either aligned at the top of middle phalanx of ring finger, or near the middle. There doesn't seem to be many in-betweens.
I wonder if that's the next step in the evolution of human hands
or maybe it's just made to look cuter...lol
short pinky ftw -

Yay! I dont feel so abnormal and out-casted anymore!
-

Yes! Unproportionate pinkies with normal hands unite! Ahahaha you guys are amazing.
-
Date: Thu, May 29 2008 21:27:58
Lol there's so many of us we should make a short pinky team xD
-
Date: Fri, May 30 2008 03:54:35
I guess the rest of you have long pinkies and we don't. Go team short pinky! Haha
And I've never met anyone with a shorter pinky than me (it measures in at 4.5cm). The rest of the hand, yeah, but the little one is undefeated XD
It does look cuter, haha, but it's such a hassle to do anything with, like guitar or play piano.
[[I've looked/read through some of the other threads, and I seriously don't know what to say in any of them XD. So I'll contain myself in this one for a bit, at least until I get used to all the... penspinning stuff. *noobstamp*]] -

I don't know how much this will help but try to exercise your pinky often. Try bending it over and over in different directions.
If you measure the exact length of all your fingers on both hands, you'll usually find that the fingers on your dominant hand are a bit longer simply because you exercise them more. I think the same concept works with individual fingers. Most people don't use their pinky much because writing and stuff happens mostly between the index, thumb and middle finger. The problem is, it took probably about 10 years of using one hand more than the other to see significant difference in one hand so it might take several years before your pinky seems 'normal length'. -

I do the bendy finger exercises and play instruments. I think it's helping quite a bit =)
Dominant hand bzns. It's srs.
I was originally left handed up until a teacher made a snippy comment and I started using my right hand only to write and eat with to make her happy. I remember reading someone's reply on another topic about the stronger eye indicating the dominant side... I think that means I'm still left handed, but not. Dominant stuffs confuzzle me XD -

Is your teacher your mum or something? -

Nope. She was just old-school. So I was a lefty in the playground and righty in the classroom. Isn't it weird? I didn't think much of it until later on, when one of my friends pointed it out.

Hey, thats just like me. I use chopsticks and spoons with my right hand, and knives with my left. In the classroom, I write with my right, and spin with my left.QUOTEI do the bendy finger exercises and play instruments. I think it's helping quite a bit =)
Playing instruments do indeed stretch the length of your pinky. -COUGH- -

Yay. I demand a cookie.
On-topic:
Having a short pinky really blows. I find it almost impossible to do any tricks/links involving the pinky.
What tricks (excluding fundamentals) can you guys do? -
Date: Thu, Jun 5 2008 07:49:42
*hands over cookie*
Fingerpa-- oh, excluding fundamentals... I think that just leaves infinity and figure eight on my part. -

*Looks at cookie* HEY. Chocolate chip please. D: But I'll eat it anyways. ;] *munch munch*
Damn. Thats not alot. About as much as I can do. =P -

Sorry to disappoint, but I don't think it was just 10 years...but rather thousands of years of evolution that lead us to have shorter pinkies. True, some of us have them shorter than others, but I don't think exercising it more will make a significant difference. I use my pinky a lot and it's still pretty darn short.
